ADHD and Behavior Support in Amherst

kids playing cone and ringsWhen a child is struggling with focus, behavior, sensory input, or emotional regulation, parents naturally want to understand why. An ADHD diagnosis may answer some questions while raising others, particularly when families are considering medication, therapies, school accommodations, or other forms of care.

At Spurback Family Chiropractic, chiropractic care isn’t intended to replace those options. Instead, we look at nervous system function as another piece of the child’s overall health picture.

Looking Beyond the Behavior

The first visit starts with listening. Your chiropractor will ask about pregnancy and birth, but she also wants to know what daily life looks like for your child.

What environments seem stressful? Are certain sounds or textures overwhelming? How are things going at school? What are their sleep, diet, digestion, and appetite like? Were feeding or digestive concerns present during infancy?

Dysregulation doesn’t necessarily look the same from one child to another. One child may constantly move, struggle to sit still, or become easily overwhelmed. Another may seem unusually withdrawn, show little curiosity, or respond minimally to people and their surroundings.

That’s why the goal is to understand the individual child rather than focus on a label alone.

Assessing Nervous System Function

INSIGHT™ scans allow us to look at nervous system patterns rather than spinal alignment alone. Findings may show differences in regulation, including patterns involving the upper neck or sacral region. The scans are considered alongside the child’s health history, examination, and current concerns.

If chiropractic care is recommended, progress is monitored over time rather than judged by one behavior or one visit.

Parents sometimes tell us they first notice changes in areas such as sleep, appetite, temperament, or their child’s ability to settle. We may also observe some children appear calmer or more engaged. Every child responds differently, however, and no particular change or timeline can be promised.

Working With Your Child’s Healthcare Team

Choosing chiropractic care doesn’t mean choosing against conventional healthcare. Our doctors are happy to communicate with pediatricians and other healthcare professionals involved in a child’s care.

Chiropractic care isn’t intended to replace ADHD medication, behavioral therapy, or another treatment recommended by your child’s provider. Families can continue those approaches while learning more about their child’s nervous system function.

Monitoring also matters. If a child isn’t progressing as expected, the scan findings and outward changes don’t align, or something appears outside the scope of chiropractic care, we may recommend further medical evaluation and work alongside the appropriate provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will chiropractic care replace my child’s ADHD medication?

No. Medication decisions should be discussed with the prescribing healthcare professional. Chiropractic care can be provided alongside your child’s existing care.

What does the evaluation look at?

We consider pregnancy and birth history, daily life, sensory concerns, sleep, diet, digestion, and other health factors alongside examination findings and INSIGHT scans.

How quickly will we notice changes?

Every child is different. Some parents notice small changes relatively early, while others may see gradual differences over a longer period. No specific response or timeframe is guaranteed.
